The Communication Studies minor provides students with a comprehensive understanding of communication theories, principles, and practices across a variety of contexts. This program emphasizes the development of critical thinking, effective communication, and ethical decision-making skills. Students explore topics such as interpersonal communication, public speaking, media literacy, organizational communication, health communication, political, and cultural communication. The minor prepares students to engage effectively in personal, professional, and societal communication, equipping them with the tools necessary to navigate diverse communication challenges in today’s globalized world. This program complements a variety of professions by enhancing students’ ability to communicate clearly, critically, and ethically in diverse settings.
Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
Demonstrate the ability to apply communication research and principles to personal, professional, and cultural relationships.
Develop an understanding of human message exchanges and recognize how communication shapes interpersonal, social, organizational, political, and cultural environments, fostering global and intercultural fluency.
Cultivate proficiency in critical thinking, research methodologies (both social scientific and humanistic), argumentation, and effective oral and written communication.
Communicate clearly and concisely in oral, written and multimedia formats, adapting messages to various audiences and platforms.
Identify, evaluate, and respond thoughtfully to ethical issues in communication, maintaining professional integrity and accountability in all interactions.
